galería perdida is pleased to announce the inaugural exhibition, kara hearn: how can the light deny the dark?
hearn's videos and non-moving image works are littered with an economical balance of craft deployed as set design, costume design and an endearing quality to keep the viewer viewing. in how can the light deny the dark? hearn brings melancholic heroism and not-so-happy ambivalent endings into the social/domestic terrain of the row house.
no longer appearing as the subject in the work, hearn turns to two seemingly unrelated sources: the imagined and mundane emotional life of a man she doesn't know; and a mid-century novel about the struggles of the disenfranchised. using video, sound, photography, and sculpture how can the light deny the dark? weaves these disparate stories together and shows how connected they, and us (we?), just might be.
